PostHeaderIcon What to do on a Work Trip

Well, I have to say I had a great time in Orlando on my business trip, even though it took 29 hours to get there.

It  was just like the first road trip I  did to the Gold Coast all the way back in 1987 when I was selected to represent NSW in the All Schools Australian Tennis Titles (although this last trip didn’t include sneaking around into the girls rooms), - but hey, I was only 15 back then and things have changed over the years…).

sneaking-around

With all the travel and hotel stay, I felt inspired to write a post with a few tips and things you should consider before the next work/road trip.

Here are a few things you should do on a business/road trip to help you stay lean…

 Train Before you Leave

In order to set myself up and wear myself out a bit so I could sleep on the plane, I got up very early and went to the gym for a “burn fat fast session”. That’s what I’m calling my new style of workout (will be online very soon) that focuses on burning maximum calories in a short amount of time. With little or no rest.

After a 10 minute warmup, I did 20 minutes of various functional movements ( the basis behind the ‘burn fat fast’ program and then got back home so I could hit the road ( or the air I should say).

And it doesn’t matter how early you have to leave, all you need to do is get up an extra 30 minutes early to squeeze in a short 20-minute burn fat fast workout.

 Eat up Before Leaving

When I came home from the gym, I had a big breakfast of a 4-egg omelet (with  broccoli, capsicum, mushrooms and spinach) plus a serve of porridge & mixed berries.

Eat at the Airport before Leaving and Take a few Snacks

I had packed some fruit, a nut mix & water for the first leg of my trip.

We all know that plane food is not the greatest and you will have a much better chance to find a nutritious meal at the airport. You just need to select a protein source & a basic salad at one of the food outlets. This will save you eating the snacks & plane food that comes out.

huge-meal2 Plan a Cheat Meal for When you get There… Gives you Something to Look Forward to

Eating a solid breakfast , snacks, then a decent pre flight meal, I was never hungry and tempted to eat junk food on the flight. It helped that I had an awesome book to read and notes to take, which kept me occupied.  Plus, in the back of my mind I had planned to have a cheat meal at some stage in the first day I got there, which kept me going.

And it worked out perfect. I go to the Hilton in Orlando and one of bus was there waiting for me and kind enough to take me to dinner. So I ordered  Pork Shanks with a salad and mash potato + a few beers.

Not too much damage, and still had protein & vegetables in it.

Find a Hotel with a gym in it

If possible find a hotel that has a gym and a pool in it. I was fortunate that the Hilton had both which made life for me very easy. I was able to hit the gym & pool  most mornings.

No major drama if you can’t though, I will have my “Travelling Boot Camp” program up online soon that requires no equipment at all.

Choose Wise Meal Options at the Take Away Restaurants

I don’t recommend eating at McDonald’s every day, but a couple of time I was left with no options for food whilst overseas. Instead of the double cheeseburger meal deal ( upsized of course the American way), with chips, coke & a cookie, I just ordered a couple of chicken wraps. At the end of the day not too bad…

Plan ahead, and you don’t have to worry about gaining weight on the road.

I spent 10 days on the road and came back 1kg lighter than when I left.

What’s the best business/road trip you’ve ever went on? Let me know in the comments section below.

PostHeaderIcon What Does a Fitness Trainer Read?

Hope everyone had an awesome weekend?

I got enough time up my sleeve to read a short book that absolutely rocks.

It is called ‘Crush It’ by Gary Vaynerchuk

book-header2-trans

Now I am not going to do a book review, but just give you a bit on sight of a few things that really stood out for me from the book.

What I am about to write may not sit well with everyone, if that is the case I apologise if you have different beliefs.

Passion is Everything - are you willing to do whatever it takes for the chance to live entirely on your own terms?

One of Gary’s biggest questions: Are you living your passion?? This really made me sit and think of myself and exactly what I am doing at the moment and what we are doing with Succeed. After a few short minutes of deliberation I know what I am doing everyday is where my passion lays.

I love everyday that I can get up and work with people to help change their lifestyle’s. Whether that is getting them fitter, or helping change how they view the world, or assisting with a more natural eating plan. I LOVE what I do everyday. I average around 12 hours a day (yes even on a Saturday) and a few hours on most Sunday’s. Many people ask how I do it, but it just doesn’t seem like work when you love it that much.

Gary is also one of these guys that works super hard and he loves every minute of it… He works till 1 or 2 most nights and is up by 6 or 7am at it again.

As I got further into the book he started talking about building a business around whatever you passion is.

Now Gary was really smart and developed an entrepreneur mind by the age of eight when he had several lemonde stands running is his neighbourhood and had staff working at all of them. He then got into Baseball cards and made a great amount of money researching and buying and selling scarce baseball cards. Why did he succeed in selling cards to other kids that had never heard of them? He was passionate and believed in his product.

He then took over the family wine shop which at the time was turning over 2 - 3 million per year. Within three years he took it to 20 million.

Why is he so successful today? He  learnt what he was most passionate and lives his dream everyday of the week.

My question to you is :

Do you know what your passion is?

Are you living it everyday?

I have answered these questions and really feel I am on the right path for my journey and what we have planned for the future which I am very excited about (along with the birth of my second child of course).

I will keep you posted as in the not too distant future, all the training I have been putting up online for you to read, watch and laugh at as Ihave been hurting myself will be available as a full strutured completely done for you training program. There will be a host of programs available to you and will cater for all levels of fitness.

If you are a passionate person who wants to make a difference, I would highly recommend reading this awesome book.

PostHeaderIcon Meet the Fitness Info Guru’s

Hey all,

Well can’t say I am happy about the weather I have come home ( plus a green mouldy pool).

Have just got back from a world wind trip to Orlando Florida to learn the latest and greatest in the Fitness Info Marketing World.

It was an amazing experience to hang out with some of the world’s greatest fitness marketers. These guys have all got amazing businesses running and are all millionares ( or very close to it).

Even though these guys are all so successful they are so down to earth and open with what they have done to make their fitness businesses so successful.

Bedros Keuillian, who set this event up is the man with everything going on. He has built an empire on Fitness Marketing and is really one  of the leaders in the fitness industry across the world. I subscribe to Bedros’ awesome fitness marketing site and this guy really knows his stuff.

bedros-myself-finess-info-summit

Next is the larger than life Chris McCombs. This guy is the guru when it comes to SEO optimisation and personal trainer marketing expert and knows how to get your website to rank higher in google. This is one of the nicest guys I know and also my business coach.

me-chris-mccombs-hanging-out2

Next was the very well built Vince Del Monte ( not happy with this guy). I had just finished a session in the gym along with Vince. I then proceeded to the pool area to cool off with a swim. Vince decides to join me. I had been feeling pretty fit and thought I was looking ok as I have dropped 6kg over the last 9 weeks, until he takes his shirt off beside me… ( google Vince Del Monte, you will see what I was standing beside)

Awesome guy, with a wealth of knowledge and some great programs out.

Then the Boot Camp marketer, Steve Hochman. This guy has got so much energy, and I don’t think he is joking when he says he has ADHD. He is all systems go ALL the time.

Last is Craig Ballantyne. Hadn’t heard of this guy until the Fitness Summit but he is selling some awesome training programs online, called the Turbulance Training System, and he is making a killing.

It was awesome to spend time with all of these guru’s and has really given me some great ideas for what we can do here in Australia.

PostHeaderIcon Growing you Personal Training Business

by Scott Williams

Well after a busy day training all of my wonderful clients, this post comes about after talking to one of my Personal Training clients.

We were discussing the option of maybe looking  at a different day for our training sessions as i am fully booked up and i really am running out of time slots to fit people in for sessions…

Anyway, we got to talking about work etc, and i was talking about my concerns within the fitness industry and saying the main problem within trying to grow a personal training business is that when, as an owner you try to step away from the business and work more for it rather than in it,  the business starts to suffer… then  you have to go back into the business and build it back up again.

Why is this?

I like it to where you get your hair cut, where you get your coffee, where you generally like to eat. Do you keep going back?? I know i do, so i can understand where people are coming from.

The one word i have is:

RAPPORT

As with all the industries listed above, people under take the services of a Personal Trainer, via a few methods:

1. they have seen them in their gym training other people

2. have been referred by a friend as the trainer to see

3. internet searches , etc

Number two is where the majority share of clients come from within the personal training industry. Which in turn leads to the problem to grow your business, you get reffered by someone saying that such and such is a great trainer and you should go see him/her.

So the potential client calls you and you say welcome to Succeed and that we have 13 great trainers for you to choose from and they say…. you guessed it… IT HAS TO BE YOU.

My friend has said so many great things about you etc, etc and i only want you to train me. Obviously a great situation to be in, but how do i spend time working for the business to take it to another level??

You have two choices:

1. bite the bulett, take a step, try to ride the decrease in income whilst you build the business or

2. stay doing what you are obviously good at and love doing ( yes it shows through if you are fully booked), and then get someone to work on putting all the systems in place ( something that they love doing)  for you whilst you focus on your sessions and clients.

It only makes sense to continually do what you love to do everyday… Do i love trying to build the systems and put structures in place so that in the not too distant future we can licence off Succeed Personal Training across the globe… HELL NO, so i have now fixed that problem.

Today i went through my client base and have found the perfect person who does this for a living and loves what they do ( systems & proesses) YUCK… you can have that!!! So she will start on that this weekend and in turn this leaves me to do what i really love to do, assist people in working toward their lifestyle changes.

CB104389

This is what she will look like…

To summarise this:

‘If you love what you do you will never have to work another day in your life’

CB047973

Remember life is too short to be stuck in a job you do not like.

GET OUT, GET OUT, GET OUT, find out what you love to do and just go do it
