The Motivation to Train
Find the Motivation That Will Lead You to Fitness Success
A blog post by yours truly Scott Williams
Motivation is really what drives us to do anything in this world. No matter what we do, whether it be getting off the couch to fix a sandwich, or volunteering your time to read to children, there’s a motivating factor behind your decision. The difficulty with motivation is that it’s not always easy to pinpoint from where it springs.
If you’re having trouble motivating yourself to workout regularly through conventional methods, try thinking outside the box. What motivates you to accomplish other tasks? Is it your partner? Your parents? Your children? What’s worked and what hasn’t when it comes to getting you going? Consider a different line of thinking and the many ways in which working out would not only have a positive effect on your life, but on the lives of the others around you as well.
Still, it’s OK to do things for oneself as well. Perhaps much of your motivation lies in making money, or being seen as important and influential, and if so that’s fine. Don’t shy away from the real factors that influence your decisions, instead, embrace them, and determine how working out and being of sound body and mind can help you reach your goals.
One of the biggest reasons that leads to people either quickly giving up on their workout plans, or never getting started to begin with, is that they simply don’t believe they will see any results. This concept that only certain ‘lucky’ people, or those with specific metabolisms will see the benefits of working out, is a complete misconception.
Absolutely anyone can and will see the positive benefits of working out when they’ve put a solid plan into place, and follow through with it. There is no luck or random factors involved, whether you’re working out to lose weight, build lean muscle, increase your endurance, etc. A proper workout plan, coupled with the proper diet for your metabolism will lead to sure-fire results.
With the right motivation and a positive, yet realistic outlook, you’ll be side-stepping the common pitfalls that derail many a person’s workout goals. Once the results start coming in, they should be motivation enough to keep you going, regardless of any potential changes in your initial motivating factor(s).

Very Good Hot Dogs
A post on listening to other people??
There was once a man who lived by the side of the road and sold hot dogs. He was hard of hearing so he had no radio - he had trouble with his eyes, so he read no newspapers and of course he didn’t look at television. But he sold very good hot dogs. He put up signs on the highway telling everyone how good they were, he stood on the side of the road and cried out to all that past ‘buy a hot dog, they are the best in town’.
And people bought his hot dogs and he increased his meat and bun orders. He bought a bigger stove to take care of all the extra business. He finally got his son to come and help him out with his business.
But then something happen, his son who had been well educated said . . . ‘ Father, haven’t you been listening to the radio or reading the newspapers or watching television? There’s a big recession happening right now. The current business situation is terrible in this country - we have problems with unemployment, high living costs, strikes, pollution, the influence of minorities and majorities, the rich, the poor, drugs, alcohol, capitalism and communism ‘.
Where upon his father thought, ‘ well my son’s been well educated, he reads the papers, listens to the radio and watches television, so he ought to know ‘.
So his father cut down on his meat and bun orders, took down all his advertising signs and no longer bothered to stand by the side of the road to promote and sell his hot dogs, . . . . and his hot dog sales fell almost overnight.
‘You’re right, son’ the father said ‘we certainly are in the middle of a recession’

What do you Want?
Most people don’t get what they want in life because they don’t know what they want. They may have a vague idea, but they can’t articulate clearly what true success means for them. In fact, when I ask people what they want, nine times out of ten they tell me what they don’t want. They say things like:
- “Well, I don’t want to be broke anymore.”
- “I don’t want all this credit card debt.”
- “I don’t wanna argue with my husband.”
- “I sure don’t wanna be fat.”
Those are good answers to the question, “What don’t you want?” But I’d asked them, “What do you want?”
There’s a big difference between knowing what you don’t want, and knowing what you do want. That distinction is going to be the key to your success.
If you’re thinking about what you don’t want, that’s what will show up in your life. What we think about, we bring about. So if you think consistently about what you don’t want, then that’s what will manifest in your world.
Another thing that people do in response to the question, “What do you want?” is to tell me not what they want, but what they think they can get. This can also limit your results for two reasons. First, it may set your standard very low and put in motion a pattern of negative thinking. Second, it may not be what you really want, so there’s no passion in the dream!
The human spirit will not invest itself in mediocrity, and you need that human spirit to achieve what you want. Your goal should be so exciting that you have butterflies in your stomach! That’s how you unlock the power of the mind and put it to work for you!

Visualising is the key!!
What is it that separates the highly successful individual from the average or even successful individual? Why is it that one person seems to achieve extraordinary results on a consistent basis and another, with nearly the same training, hits and misses their accomplishments?
The success technique to which I am referring is visualisation. I guarantee that “visualising your results is the key to realizing your results.” Visualising is one of the most important techniques you will ever learn and one that is utilized by all high performers.
Visualising is your key to success for two reasons: Your mind thinks in pictures and images; Your unconscious mind drives your behavior.
Your unconscious mind doesn’t know the difference between something that is real and something vividly imagined. Whatever picture (goal) you consistently think about will drive your actions to create that exact picture. When you continually see yourself in possession of your goal, your unconscious mind will move you into actions that align with the mental image you hold.
Here’s a quick visualisation overview to assure your goal achievement:
- Create a clear mental picture. You must associate a picture to your goal. You should picture yourself in your vision, rather than watching yourself achieve your goal. This “fine point” separates the masters from the masses. You must create a picture that is so real you believe you already have achieved your success.
- You must “experience” your vision. You must be in your picture, looking through your own eyes… seeing, hearing and feeling everything as if you have already achieved your goal. You must create the emotion of the moment in your own body.
- Visualise your goal at every opportunity. Bring up your mental picture while waiting at a stop light, when you’re on a break, before your next meeting. The more frequently you plant your picture into your unconscious mind, the more rapidly you will begin to realize increased results in your life.
- Visualise first thing in the morning and last thing at night. The best time to visualise is in the morning right after you wake up and just before you go to sleep. These are the times when your unconscious mind is most open to influence. When your conscious mind relaxes, your unconscious becomes very receptive to your thoughts, dreams and ideas–particularly ideas with high emotion.
So make a commitment right now to create your picture of achieving your goal. All great masters have taught that we become what we constantly think about.
For me, I personally believe that a basic meditation C.D is the best way to sit and relax and visualise. Head to your local music or go to itunes to purchase. If you are in Canberra I would head to the Heirophant at the Griffith Shops for a huge range of C.D’s to choose from.

A Question of Balance
A post about your balance in life, family, fitness, business
At times, everyone’s life will be out of balance.
In order to realise our goals some sacrifice will be necessary. To me, balance is best explained as a centre point to which we keep returning from bouts of relaxation or pressure. It’s like the grey area from which we deliberately choose to step away or step back into.
When we play tennis we react to the ball best when we’re at centre court. Sometimes we throw ourselves at the net, sometimes we chase the ball to the side, but at all times we’re aware of how exposed we are and our need to get back to centre court - our balance point.
Perfect balance is a state of non-movement. Life’s too fluid and dynamic for this state to be maintained for long periods. If we want to get ahead in life, then in almost anything, it requires work, effort and a personal stretch.
The answer lies in knowing how to relax, and how to push when required. We also need to recognise the state we’re in at any given moment, and then make a conscious decision to maintain or alter that state. Is it time to relax or, go for it?
If you choose to push it then, support your decision by:
- Not missing an exercise workout. A workout will burn off excess stress and leave you calm and rational.
- Always eat breakfast. This sends a message to your body that all is OK and prevents the body from wanting to store bodyfat.
- Discuss with your family the period of time you’ll be out of balance and the reason you’ve made this choice.
If you choose to relax then, support this decision by:
- Leaving your briefcase at work - don’t take it home the night you intend to relax.
- Take your watch off …you’ll soon get out of time.
- Eat lunch away from work stimulants such as the computer screen.
Know the cost of deciding to go for it, or to back off. And, take responsibility for that decision.
Balance is a destination never arrived at. Its knowing that its your choice to maintain or reject your current state that’s important.

Why People Fail at Fat Loss
Why is it that most people really know what they want, but just refuse to go after it??
The starting point for everybody and the number 1 reason where most people fall down is:
- 1. most people procrastinate, are lazy, and have a poor mental attitude about what they BELIEVE they can actually achieve.
- 2. reason for failure at fat loss & achieving their dream body is most people have ineffective training routines
3. poor dietary habits.
The reason I put beliefs in front of the actual details of training/nutrition for weight loss is because your brain and your mental status is the true starting point for success in anything.
This involves:
* BELIEVING that you CAN actually achieve it
* DECIDING exactly what you want (how you want your body to look, how lean you want to be, how much confidence you want to feel, how much energy you want, etc)
* Making sure you actually have a BURNING DESIRE for what you want to achieve
* Setting/documenting EXACT GOALS for what you want to achieve ( body, ideal weight)
* VISUALIZING and “feeling” what you want to achieve
* Taking massive action NOW to start achieving (no procrastination)
In order to be successful at anything, excuses must be thrown out the window… there is no such thing as bad genetics, no such thing as “not enough time”, no such thing as “it’s just too hard”… no excuses at all for not achieving what you desire.
This is the stuff nobody ever wants to talk about, but this is more important to get right first before ever dealing with the “details” about workouts and how to eat for fat loss or any goal.
You must learn to work from the inside out. If you cannot change the inside then the outside desire will not appear.
If you want to get your mindset straight, and also set yourself on the right path with the “details” of your workouts and dietary strategies, then we can help you.
Simply send us an email and we will assist you down the right path, but remember you have to want to do it and be willing to change.
