I Need Your Help With This….
Ok, so as most of you know I have been fortunate enough to have been asked to sit a national panel of people along with myself as the Australian Fitness Expert.
Anyway, to make the night run a bit smoother and not leave us totally out in the dark, they have been kind enough to send through an outline of a some of the questions and one of them has really stood out for me.
Most of our clients have kids of varying age and it is no NEWS FLASH that Australia is now the FATTEST country in the world…. and I was wondering if you could help me out before I sit on this panel on the weekend with a few answers to the great fat and weight loss debate??

Who’s role is it to turn the state of the nation around?? Is it up to the government, fitness trainers and clubs, the individual??
How can we help our kids? What can fitness trainers, clubs, Government do that could help this cause?
I would love to hear your feedback on this, and if I like it, it may even make national Television on the panel when I talk about this topic!!!

History of NLP
HISTORY OF NLP
Neuro Linguistic Programming is a hybrid science that was developed in the late 1960’s and early 1970’s by computer scientist, Richard Bandler, and linguist, John Grinder.
From the combined perspectives of their respective sciences, they began a study of three therapists. The therapists were producing excellent results, transforming their client’s ways of thinking, feeling and behaving. They modelled Family therapist, Virginia Satir, Gestalt therapist, Fritz Perls and hypnotherapist, Milton Erickson, who legitimised hypnotherapy as a healing treatment modality accepted by the A.M.A. (American Medical Association).
Bandler and Grinder were looking to discover exactly what transpired in the minds and bodies of patients at the moment change occurred. They asked what specifically caused the change and how they cold replicate it more quickly and efficiently, without years of therapy.
In addition, Bandler and Grinder examined what was occurring in the minds and behaviours of the therapists who achieved such great successes with their patients. Bandler and Grinder wanted to describe the steps of the therapeutic process itself to teach others step by step how to achieve the exact same result in less time.
The techniques Bandler and Grinder developed by modelling Satir, Perls and Erickson are so concise and effective that the behavioural changes that used to take years now can occur within a matter of hours or minutes. In the decades since its inception NLP has proven a reliable and fast way for people to gain control of their minds and therefore there results.

How Bad do You Want It Part II
Yesterday I spoke of the importance of your mind in how you look. Today it is all about structure..
Your Structure
Everyone who successfully sets out to lose body fat and achieve results does so by implementing a structure. Your plan is crucial to your success, picture it as a guiding map needed to find a new destination. Without it you are lost.
Here are the 2 major parts to your structure:
1. Exercise: Yes, you will have to put in a bit of effort and break into a sweat, but the good news is that once you make exercise a habit you will find that you really enjoy it - In fact, I know you will. It is important that you make exercise a part of your lifestyle, and not something that you do on random occasions. For maximal results exercise 4-5 times at around 30 – 40 minutes each week doing both cardiovascular and resistance training. You could for a local Personal Trainer or a Bootcamp in your area. Training with a friend will help your motivation levels.
2. Diet: They say you are what you eat ( about 72% of what you eat is how you look), and that is never truer than while losing weight. Cut junk food from your diet and stick with fresh healthy foods instead. Eat small meals throughout the day containing protein, carbohydrates and minimal fat.
*Stick with your healthy eating and exercise routine-these are what will make the difference on the road to your successful transformation of a new you.

How Bad Do You Want It, Part I
Here is part 1 of 3 of a small series of mind games for you…
How bad do you want it?
For many the summer months in Canberra ( which are not far away) bring with them a harsh reminder of unmet fitness goals.
While the toned men and slender women of the world put on their summer gear and proudly put themselves on display, whilst those that gave into temptation with food and a bit of hard work, are quite happy sweating in the jumper and tracky pants..
So why haven’t you met your fitness goals?
Why must you go through another summer, turning your head as you pass by the beaches showcasing buff bodies? You should be enjoying your summer days without wondering whether you look ok in this outfit.
The truth is that anyone can get the body of their dreams…even you! And wouldn’t it feel great to pull on your bathing suit without bracing yourself before looking in the mirror? Maybe look for a local Personal Trainer or Bootcamp Group in your area. Just make sure you do a bit of research and that they are well renowned and have been in the fitness industry for a while.
Well the truth is you can turn your fitness dreams (new years resolution) into reality-read on for a few things you need make happen to begin achieving the body you always new you could.
Your Mind
You may be wondering what your mind has to do with getting your body into great shape. In a single word, your mind has everything to do with getting the body you have always desired. Your mind will single handedly make or break your success.
How is this possible? Well, your mind works to reinforce the beliefs that you hold about yourself. If you think of yourself as a fat person, or an out-of-shape person, or just an average person then your subconscious mind will do everything in its power to manifest more of the same to keep you that way.
It’s like self-sabotage.
However, if you begin to think of yourself as fit, healthy and attractive, then your mind will do everything it can to make your belief a reality.
*Take time everyday to visualize your new body and how you want it to look.

24 Things to Always Remember
Your presence is a present to the world.
You are unique and one of a kind.
Your life can be what you want it to be.
Take the days just one at a time.
Count your blessings, not your troubles.
You will make it through whatever comes along.
Within you are so many answers.
Understand, have courage, be strong.
Do not put limits on yourself.
So many dreams are waiting to be realized.
Decisions are too important to leave to chance.
Reach for your peak, your goal and you prize.
Nothing wastes more energy than worrying.
The longer one carries a problem the heavier it gets.
Do not take things too seriously.
Live a life of serenity, not a life of regrets.
Remember that a little love goes a long way.
Remember that a lot … goes forever.
Remember that friendship is a wise investment.
Life’s treasures are people together.
Realize that it is never too late.
Do ordinary things in an extraordinary way.
Have heart and hope and happiness.
Take the time to wish upon a star.
AND DO NOT EVER FORGET, FOR EVEN A DAY, HOW VERY SPECIAL YOU ARE !
Make it a Habit
Do you have trouble getting motivated to exercise?
Do you wish there was something you could do about it?
Do you think it’s your willpower that just doesn’t measure up?
What if there was a way for you to develop your willpower?
What if I could give you a few little secrets that you could use to create motivation and put to use to reach your fitness goals? Well if you’re willing to supply just a little bit of desire and a little bit of effort, I’ll teach you how to develop an unstoppable motivation and willpower that your friends will envy.
The key to your success is a simple five letter word… and that word is habit. This is our number one goal! Yes! Our number one goal is to create the habit of exercise and our improved fitness will be a by product of accomplishing this. How are we going to do this? We are going to break this down as far as necessary. And you will be the one who determines just how far that is. What do I mean by that? Well virtually all exercise consists of either steps or repetitions. Think of your favorite exercise. Is it walking? Then it can be broken down to steps… (or time spent) right? Is it push ups? Then it can be broken down to repetitions. Get the idea? So if we are to succeed at creating the habit of exercising, technically we only need to take “some” steps or to do “some” repetitions on a regular, consistent basis.
You might be thinking, come on now… how is taking a few steps or a few repetitions going to help me reach my fitness goals? Stay with me for a minute. Most people who fail at reaching their fitness goals, fail because they lack motivation. And the reason they lack motivation is because their holding the wrong picture in their mind. Both of how you perceive exercise and how you perceice yourself, plays a big part in the picture….. Always remember, something is better than nothing.
I begin by telling myself that I am going to do “one set” of my favorite exercise (the leg press) and then after giving myself two or three minutes to recover from that set, I will then ask myself if I want to do more. Nine times out of ten I do! And if I don’t I can still feel good that I did that set and strengthened the habit of exercise. Surely anyone can do a “single set” of their favorite exercise and create the habit of doing so. Make the goal creating the “habit”… not the workout!!! We can always increase the steps, the reps, the number of sets, the exercises and the time spent anytime we want to! And I encourage you to do so… whenever you feel like it!
We need to keep in mind that not all workouts have to be maximal. Start each workout with just one set of your favorite exercise. Wait 2 or 3 minutes and while you’re waiting, praise yourself for accomplishing that set. You’ve just included some exercise in your day. Doesn’t that feel good? You have taken the first step to creating a habit… a very good habit. And each time that you do this you are strengthening that habit. Now, ask yourself if you feel like you want to do more. If not… stop. If so, repeat.
Many people get to the gym and turn around and go home because they just don’t feel up to working out that day. But many of us have found that if we just submit to doing a set or two of something, we begin to feel like doing more.
Habits begin like flimsy cobwebs at first and are strengthened day by day to become like unbreakable cables to strengthen our lives. What happens is once you get started, you will begin to feel the endorphins rush and most of the time you will “feel” like doing more. I kid you not! Try it!
Here is a poem that I came across recently that seems appropriate for this article. I hope you enjoy it.
Who am I?
I am your constant companion.
I am your greatest helper or heaviest burden.
I will push you onward or drag you down to failure.
I am completely at your command.
Half the things you do you might just as well
turn over to me and I will be able to do them
quickly and correctly.
I am easily managed -
You must merely be firm with me.
Show me exactly how you want
Something done and after a few lessons
I will do it automatically.
I am the servant of all great men;
And alas, of all failures, as well.
Those who are great, I have made great.
Those who are failures, I have made failures.
I am not a machine,
Though I work with all the precision
Of a machine plus the intelligence of a man.
You may run me for a profit or run me for ruin -
It makes no difference to me.
Take me, train me, be firm with me,
And I will place the world at your feet.
Be easy with me and I will destroy you.
Who am I? I am habit!
