Hey all,

Well after a wonderful trip to the other side of the country attending the 2009 Fitness Australia Business Awards, we are pleased to announce that we have come back with the BIG award.

Yes we have been fortunate enough to again WIN the:

2009 Australian Personal Training Business of the Year

For the second year running we have been fortunate enough to have been judged not only Canberra’s, but Australia’s Best Personal Training Organisation.

We have now won every award available for 2009 and I believe this is a testament to our dedication and passion for helping change as many people’s lives as possible.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank all of our trainers both past and present and of course our clients.

Without such a wonderful group of friends and clients our organisation would not be where it is today and we are grateful for your support over the last five years.

Check out a clip from the awards night:

Yours in Health & Fitness

sunset

Well it has come to that time where we head off into the sunset for the final awards nights of the year.

We are packing our bags bags and heading to Perth for the 2009 Australian Fitness Business of the Year awards at the beautiful Sheraton Hotel in Perth.

It is set to be a huge evening, with Australia’s best trainers, Personal Training Businesses and the best health clubs in Australia all in attendance to see who can claim the award of Australia’s Best Fitness Business.

I have also been fortunate enough to have been asked to sit an expert panel of members for an open forum on the fitness industry, on where it has come to where it heading.

I am honoured to have been asked as  Australia’s leading Fitness Expert, so a big thank you from me goes out to the Australian government and Fitness Australia  for the opportunity to sit on the panel. I am looking forward to sitting with some of Australia’s leading government officials and Australia’s leading journalists.

We have been fortunate enough to make the finals and we are hoping to be the first company to win this illustrious award two years in a row.

We only got here because of our wonderful staff & clients, so a big thank you to you all.

Wish us luck as we head to the other side of the country for a few days.

P.S. Here is my last cross fit training session I thought you might like to have a go at:

A version of ‘Fight Gone Bad’, which entails picking 5 exercises, each 1 minute in duration, completing as many good reps as possible, x three rounds.

30kg thrusters ( lighter as my knee is just coming good)

Double Unders ( skipping)

Pull Ups

Dips

Rower

So the idea is to add up each round of reps and combime them for a total score.

My score: 284

Certainly not one of my best performances, but a good comeback session that had me close to the bin…

Not sure if I will get back to the blogs this week, I will see you all on the other side ( hopefully with the Australian Personal Training Business of the Year award in my hand).

Neuro Linguistic Programming (NLP) is a set of specific techniques that deliberately restructure toward positive functioning of the brain’s thinking and the body’s behaviours by aligning the conscious with the unconscious mind and body. NLP offers highly refined tools to take charge of every area of life in the most effective way possible to produce results. It enables individuals to proactively design their physical and emotional responses.

Neuro Linguistic Programming (NLP) is a set of specific techniques that deliberately restructure the brain and the body’s behaviours toward positive function through the alignment of the conscious and unconscious mind and body. NLP offers highly refined tools to take charge of every area of life in the most effective and efficient way possible to produce results. It enables individuals to proactively design their physical and emotional responses and therefore, their results.

The three components of NLP are:

 NEURO

The nervous system’s taking in of life or reality through the five senses

  • Sight (Visual)
  • Sound (Auditory)
  • Touch (Kinaesthetic)
  • Smell (Olfactory)
  • Taste (Gustatory)

Understanding how the body and mind neurology works to better direct it toward more effective thoughts and behaviours.

Creating new neurological pathways that break through mental boundary conditions.

 LINGUISTIC

 Becoming aware of how communication occurs within self and with others;

  • Pictures
  • Sounds
  • Feelings
  • Tastes
  • Smells
  • Internal dialogue

Using language to guide the mind toward change.

Speaking to others within their particular representational system or their model of the world.

 PROGRAMMING

Understanding the mind is like a computer with though patterns as the software and discovering what programs are determining current experience.

Using specific tools and techniques to reprogram, upgrade and install new software for optimal high performance.

Well after 12 weeks of interviews, formal functions and a wonderful trip to Sydney last week, the final award for the Telstra Australian Business of the Year was announced.

Unfortunately Succeed didn’t take home the overall Telstra Australian Buisness of the Year award. Beaten closely by ‘The Coach Program’.

We feel absolutely honoured that from nearly 4000 nominated businesses, to be named in the top seven businesses in our country. Not a bad feat for what started as two man business working in our garages and ovals in Canberra.

Congratulations to all the wonderful businesses that made the finals.

It was fantastic to see a huge range of finalists, ranging form a meat abattoirs in Victoria to motorcycle building company in Tassie to an online tours company in Queensland to a fitness company in Canberra to a vaccine company in South Australia. Well done to all businesses for reaching the pinnacle of Australian business.

We would also like to thank all of our past and present clients and staff for their support over the last four years. Without all of you we wouldn’t be were we are today.

Australia’s Best Personal Training Company…..

Only a short post today as I am tired and it is time for bed.

Today I did one of the girls in, Nancy.

My first time attempting this one and surprise, surprise it was another tough one to get through.

I couldn’t match the big guys weights from the American site.

Nancy

400m Run

40kg Overhead Squats ( I only did 25kg)

x 5 sets for time

Time: 16.32

Avg HR: 169

Calories: 298

The Overhead Squat

overhead-squat

Yes, not sure who this is, but she is lifting the full weight of 40kg.

Puts me to shame really, in my defence though I did go full depth on all squats.

A very tough session, but with the correct modified weight, this one will be ok for some of my Personal Training clients.

Stay tuned, for all our Canberra Boot Camp and Personal Training Clients, there is some new programs coming your way soon from the Succeed Team.

PostHeaderIcon My Latest Training Nightmare

Well for the first time in history I have ran under 5 minute km’s.

Wednesday’s session was a 5km time trial, and as you all know I HATE running…. so this session was a drag for me.

I must be getting fitter doing this cross fit. For the first time I have broken the 25 minute mark for 5km.

Time: 24.59 ( yes by 1 second)

Avg HR: 167

Calories: 421

Today saw me do another ‘fight gone bad’ session ( for some reason I love these)…

If you go back to July, you will see my results, but I have smashed my last attempt at ‘Fight Gone Bad’

My score was: 341 ( last score 307)

Avg Hr: 167

Calories: 421

Signs are good that I am actually heading in the right direction on the fitness side of things, with such a big increase in score from a few weeks ago.

I will keep plugging away. I am loving the cardiovascular within the training.

Having a few days away from Canberra, in Wagga at the moment, so I will do a session here tomorrow morning ( see if I can find any takers to join me)….

PostHeaderIcon Succeed Make Final 5 for Telstra Australian Business of the Year Awards

ACT businesses excel and thrive on passion

7 July 2009 - Leading small and medium businesses, today named as finalists for the 2009 ACT Telstra Business Awards, are proof that following your passion is a great way to achieve success.

Five ACT companies - whose businesses vary from constructing mountain bike tracks to personal training - were today announced as finalists across four categories in Australia’s largest and most prestigious small business awards program.

Telstra Business Group Managing Director and Telstra Business Awards Ambassador, Deena Shiff, said while the finalists from the ACT operate in a diverse range of industries and vastly different scales, this year’s finalists are all driven by their own unique passions and a love for what they do.

”For 17 years, the Telstra Business awards have applauded and inspired the strength and spirit of Australia’s entrepreneurs as part of Telstra’s support for the engine room of the economy,” Ms Shiff said.

”As economic conditions get more difficult, the role of these awards couldn’t be more important. And the ACT finalists are rising to the challenge.

”They are turning their passions into sustainable businesses, creating new markets and jobs while doing what they love every day.”

For Darren Stewart, Managing Director of Makin Trax Australia, the decision to go into the business was a matter of following his heart.

”The business encompasses all of my interests from machine operation and business building to riding mountain bikes. It is a true privilege to be paid to do what you love,” Mr Stewart said.

Founder and Company Director of Succeed Personal Development, Jesse McConaghy, said he was following advice he was given years ago to ensure you “do what you love” and today he is doing exactly that.

”Providing people with the knowledge and tools they require to change their lives is our passion,” Mr McConaghy said. “We have succeeded because we are passionate about making a difference in people’s lives and opening their eyes to their personal potential through the empowerment of personal fitness.”

Ms Shiff said each finalist has undergone a rigorous self-assessment process with their plans and processes assessed by a panel of independent judges. The judging panel has also visited the site of each of the finalists and obtained verification of financial data.

The winners of the ACT awards will be announced on July 24, and the winners of each category will proceed to the national awards to be announced in Sydney on August 20. There is over $400,000 in cash and prizes to be won.

ACT finalists in the 2009 Telstra Business Awards are:

  • Succeed Personal Development (health and fitness) of Greenway;
  • Contract1 (professional services) of Braddon;
  • Makin Trax Australia (design and construction) of Curtin;
  • PSI Asia Pacific (professional services/infrastructure) of Braddon; and
  • Point Project Management (professional services) of Braddon.

They are vying not only for the ACT Telstra Business Award but are also in the running for the businessowner Micro-Business Award, the MYOB Small Business Award, the Panasonic Medium Business Award and the Sensis Social Responsibility Award.

Ms Shiff said Telstra Business was committed to helping small and medium-sized businesses succeed by providing them with business grade tools and guidance for today’s challenging and ever-changing environment.

”We touch more small and medium businesses than almost any other organisation and we want them to succeed not only by providing services and solutions, but also by working in partnership with them to help their business thrive into the future,” Ms Shiff said.

”As part of this commitment, each year Telstra invests months of work and millions of dollars to assess the hundreds of entries in the Telstra Business Awards.

”We make such a significant undertaking because we want to work with small and medium businesses to realise their potential and help them receive the recognition they deserve.”

PostHeaderIcon Yesterday

Well i have to say i wasn’t sure what to expect with being short   listed  to win the Australian Telstra Business of the year awards, and i have to say it avery gruelling process. It took close to five weeks to have the initial submission ready ( well Jesse mostly, he did 95% of that job thank god).

We had to sit the interview process yesterday in which we basicallygot drilled for close to two hours onour business, future direction for Succeed and basically life in general.

It was actually a great process as it has given us the opportunity to really assess where we are now to where we seethe business heading in the future.  Basically it has helped us build a five year business for the organisation which is great.

I believe both Jesse & myself did a great job and we now wait for the judges to go to all the other businesses and  do the same interview process, and we should know by the end julyy how we went.

I will keep you posted.

We also got stuck outside for Bootcamp yesterday morning at Fadden due to school exams. Thank you tothose that fronted in the cold weather ( wasn’t too bad really). Sometimes i do come up with silly training ideas that really don’t seem that hard until you do the session ( and yes i actually participated)….

Great work to those that attended, we did 3 x 12 minute sets of running with a variety of exercises at the end of the court and it was much harder than it looked on paper ( a bit like cross fit style really). I gotta say that after legs on Tuesday and then back up with that yesterday has taken a toll on the old body…. Hopefully it will bounce back today.

Over the coming weeks i will actually post the session  plans up on the website, so you can have a look and maybe write it down for your yourself to try one day.

Anyway gotta go and start on a 13 hour PT day, will be a struggle another late night and early morning. Maddy has been a little saint and has pretty much slept all night for the last 5 nights which is really making a big difference. I would be wrecked if she had been waking up during the nights.

My little princess has just turned 1 and is very cute. Not sure how she gets into some of the sleeping positions she does.

Trying to send Lisa back to work full time so i can do Daddy Day Care everyday…. I love it.
